Brisbane is a young and vibrant city, blessed with a subtropical climate of warm, bright summers and clear, mild winters. The capital of the Sunshine State of Queensland, Brisbane is at the heart of one of the most diverse and popular holiday regions in Australia. The city lies on the banks of the serpentine Brisbane River - a colourful waterway for ferries, paddlewheelers and pleasure boats. From its Aboriginal and later European origins, the city has grown into a fresh, modern capital with parks and gardens dotting even the city centre. The gleaming towers that define the city skyline reflect our heritage buildings - treasured edifices in sandstone that have been lovingly restored - while in the surrounding suburbs weatherboard Queenslander cottages, with their shady verandahs and iron roofs, give Brisbane its unique character.

Brisbane is a cosmopolitan city with a welcoming and friendly ambience. While it offers all the excitement and diversity of a big city, the pace is a little less frenetic as residents and visitors alike soak up the outdoor lifestyle. There is something for all tastes whether it be the arts, shopping or fine dining. Visit our attractions, meet the local wildlife or take a tour of the sights and a cruise along the river.
South Bank
On the southern banks of the city lies Brisbane's favourite leisure
and entertainment precinct - South Bank. Imagine a palm fringed
beach and a tropical rainforest right in the city centre! There
are street performers, bustling weekend markets, lazy canal cruises
and outdoor barbecue and picnic facilities. Attractions include
the amazing live collection of butterflies and insects at the
South Bank Wildlife Sanctuary.

Clothing
Brisbane, Australia's City of Sun Days, is a great place to visit
any time of year as it enjoys a sub-tropical climate of long summers
and mild, dry winters. Pack casual, lightweight clothing and some
special outfits for dining at restaurants or nights at the theatre
or casino. As the capital of the Sunshine State, Brisbane has
long hours of sunshine so be sure to bring a swimsuit, hat and
sunscreen. Warmer clothing may be required for winter mornings
and evenings. Comfortable shoes and jeans are a must for bushwalking
or horse riding .
Talk to the
Animals
Witness outback Australia at The Australian Woolshed. Watch sheep-shearing
demonstrations and trained rams starring in their own show, or
milk a cow and bottle feed baby lambs. Cuddle a koala and see
unique Australian animals and birds at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary.
Brisbanes Alma Park Zoo has an abundance of native fauna,
as well as wild animals of the world; or visit the South Bank
Wildlife Sanctuary and see fascinating displays of some of Australia's
more infamous animals.
