About Bundaberg

The Bundaberg Coral Isles and Country Region encompasses a diversity of experiences, making it an ideal
holiday location. With its pristine environment, the region is home to many marine creatures. Humpback whales pass close to the shoreline en route to Hervey Bay, and there is Australia’s largest mainland turtle rookery situated at Mon Repos Beach. Reef walk, snorkel and dive on one of the great wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef.

Throughout the region there is a sense of history mixed with wilderness adventure, rural experiences and warm country hospitality. All this and more is waiting for you to enjoy.

There is something for everyone to experience along our 140 kilometres of beautiful unspoilt beaches. Celebrating the start of the Turtle nesting season, The Coral Coast Turtle Festival in November offers a weekend carnival of shows, markets and parades throughout the Coral Coast and, of course, marks the
official start to the turtle nesting season. A visit to the Mon Repos turtle rookery is a must during the summer months. Coonar Beach and Kinkuna National Parks include a natural wilderness of banksia growth. Four wheel driving is necessary in some areas here.

Elliot heads is Queensland's friendliest beach. Coral Cove and Innes Park boast some of the region's best
inshore dive sites. Bargara Beach, which includes Kelly's Beach and Neilson's Park, is the region's most developed seaside centre. Burnett Heads heralds the entrance of the river to the sea. Port Bundaberg includes a marina and reef departure jetty. Moore Park boasts 14 kilometres of golden sand and nature walks.

The Discovery Coast includes the beautiful Town of 1770 and Agnes Water - famous for being the first place that Captain James Cook and his crew on the Endeavor came ashore in Queensland - hence its claim to be the 'birthplace' of Queensland.

Turquoise waters . . . . white coral sands . . . rainbows of colour reflected in coral gardens and tropical fish . . . this is the Great Barrier Reef. Our two "ladies of the reef", Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave Islands are easily accessible from Bundaberg. Lady Elliot Island - the first coral isles on the Reef - is just a 25 minute scenic
flight from Bundaberg Airport. Fly there for a day or stay longer at the Eco-resort for a totally relaxing holiday. Lady Musgrave Island boasts a unique combination of coral isle and the largest navigable lagoon on the
entire Reef - and what a lagoon - around 1200 hectares! Visitors are fascinated by the island's fauna, flora
and overall tranquil ambience. Day cruises allow plenty of time to view the reef and marine life - the
adventurous can even obtain a camping permit and stay overnight.

The Bundaberg region offers the most accessible coral diving experience in Queensland, as well as some of the best shore dive sites in Australia and very affordable dive courses at world class teaching venues.

At the centre of the sugar cane country is Bundaberg, or “Bundy” as it is more fondly known. Bundaberg a progressive city of around 50 000, is 14 kilometres from the Coral Coast, where the townships of Elliott Heads, Innes Park, Bargara and Burnett Heads boast some of the most pristine beaches in Australia. To the south is Buxton, one of the last unspoilt fishing villages, and Woodgate with an abundance of wildlife. In the surrounding national parks Childers, a National Trust town, is set on top of rolling hills of red soil, and the northern Town of 1770 is the first place that James Cook landed in Queensland. The Central and North Burnett provides a contrast to the coastal areas of the region with its rugged gorges, imposing mountain ranges and serene
rural views.
